FSSAI stands for The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which issues the FSSAI license for the food chain industry. We help food businesses obtain this license and ensure that they stick to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulations governing food safety.
Under the 2026 amendment to the Licensing and Registration Regulations, a licence or registration remains valid indefinitely unless suspended, cancelled or surrendered. Licences issued under the earlier rules keep their printed expiry date and move to the new framework on their next renewal.
Perpetual validity does not remove annual compliance. The prescribed annual fee must be paid and the applicable compliance report filed each year. Failure on either count results in automatic suspension, after which the business must stop operating until dues and penalties are cleared.
The turnover limit for Basic Registration has been raised substantially, moving many smaller operators out of the State Licence category. The definition of petty food business has also been widened, and street vendors registered under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 now receive registration automatically.
