IEC Code (Import Export Code)

Overview

IEC Code (Import Export Code)

The Import Export Code (IEC) is a crucial business identification number that is mandatory for any company engaged in importing and exporting goods in and out of India. Vinay Associate provides expert services to facilitate the seamless acquisition of the IEC, ensuring that businesses can participate in global trade without legal hindrances. The IEC is a permanent identifier for a business and carries lifetime validity, though DGFT requires every holder to confirm or update their details on the portal once each financial year in order to keep the code active.

Import Export Code (IEC) registration service — Vinay Associates

Key Benefits:

  • Possession of an IEC is a basic need for companies looking to engage in importing and exporting goods, as it is recognized by customs, the Export Promotion Council, and other trade authorities.
  • It ensures compliance with the economic laws of India and streamlines the process of receiving and sending shipments across international borders.
  • Once obtained, the IEC does not expire and need not be applied for again, keeping recurring compliance to a simple annual confirmation of details on the DGFT portal.
  • Companies with an IEC can take advantage of subsidies offered by the Export Promotion Council, Customs, and the Ministry of Commerce, enhancing profitability in international trade.

Registration Process:

  • We assist in the collection of all necessary documentation, which includes personal identification (like Aadhaar and PAN), business registration documents, and bank account details pertinent to the business.
  • Our team prepares and applies to the IEC with careful attention to detail, ensuring that all information is accurate and complete to avoid any discrepancies or rejections.
  • The completed application is submitted to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the government body responsible for issuing the IEC. We handle all interactions with the DGFT to ensure that the process moves forward smoothly.
  • If there are any queries or additional information required from the DGFT, we act swiftly to provide accurate responses to facilitate the approval process.
  • Upon successful verification of the application and documents, the DGFT issues the IEC, which is sent directly to the applicant. We ensure that our clients receive their IEC promptly.
  • After getting the IEC, we offer ongoing support to our clients for any further compliance or operational queries related to international trade.

Annual Compliance Requirement

Last reviewed — August 2026
1 April to 30 June, every year Mandatory Annual Updation

Under DGFT Notification No. 58/2015-2020, every IEC holder must log in to the DGFT portal and confirm or update their IEC details once each financial year, even where nothing has changed. The window runs from 1 April to 30 June.

Effect of non-compliance Automatic Deactivation

An IEC that has not been updated within the window is deactivated automatically. A deactivated IEC halts customs clearance and trade remittances until the update is completed, after which the code is reactivated on the DGFT system.

Fees Confirmation Free, Modification Chargeable

Where no details have changed, the annual confirmation carries no government fee. Where details such as address, bank account or directors are modified during the update, a nominal government fee applies on the DGFT portal.
