Effective 22 September 2025 GST 2.0 — Revised Rate Structure

The 56th GST Council rationalised the rate structure. The 12% slab has been withdrawn and most items reassigned to 5% or 18%, with a 40% rate applying to selected luxury and demerit categories. Businesses should review their product classifications and update billing systems accordingly.

Effective December 2025 Three-Year Return Filing Time Bar

GST returns can no longer be filed once three years have passed from their original due date. Any pending filings from earlier periods should be cleared without delay, as the portal now enforces this cut-off permanently.

Current position Registration Threshold Limits

Registration remains mandatory once aggregate turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for suppliers of goods and ₹20 lakh for service providers, with lower limits applying in special category states. Certain categories require registration irrespective of turnover.
